As you may have heard, 2018 is the Canada-China Year of Tourism. I am writing to you today to let you know about some of the work the Government of Canada is doing to attract more Chinese tourists to Canada.
Our Government is working to double the number of Chinese tourists that come to Canada by 2021. We are enhancing our efforts to market Canada to Chinese consumers, because when more Chinese visitors come to our communities, it means more dollars spent at our local businesses and more jobs for Canadians.
More and more, Chinese tourists are travelling the world and this represents a huge opportunity for Canada’s tourism sector. In 2016, Chinese tourists spent $1.5 billion in Canada. China is our third-largest tourism market, and the number of Chinese visitors coming to Canada keeps growing. And we know Chinese tourists typically spend more money in our communities than the average visitor. This is great news, and we believe the best is still to come!
The Canada-China Year of Tourism is a golden opportunity for businesses across the country. I therefore encourage you to display the Canada-China Year of Tourism logo proudly at your business to welcome visitors. You can download it for free at Canada.ca/ccyt2018. Also on the site, you will find key resources on how your business can get ready to welcome Chinese visitors.
